TRAINING AND PLACEMENT
The Training and Placement Cell of the Directorate of Technical Education Assam co-ordinates and facilitates Apprenticeship Training and Placement of the Government Engineering Colleges and polytechnics of Assam.
APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING
Apprenticeship training aims at providing on-the-job training in addition to classroom related instruction to properly prepare an individual for the career of his or her choice. The Apprenticeship Act was first introduced in India in the form of a bill on August 19, 1961. This Act provides regulations and control of training of apprentices and for matters connected therewith. The Amendment (No.F. 36-14/96-TS IV dated 06/05/1997) states that one year Apprenticeship training to Degree/Diploma/ Technician Voc. holders in Non-Engineering or Technology or equivalent qualification granted by any Institution recognized by the Government as experience for employment under Central/State Establishments.
The Govt. of India has prescribed the rate of stipend for all the categories of apprentices to the tune of Rs. 9000/- p.m. for Graduate Apprentices, Rs. 8000/- p.m. for Technician (Diploma) Apprentices. This would encourage the students to come up in more numbers to undertake Apprenticeship training. Further revision in the stipend is under active consideration of Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.
The Board of Practical Training (BOPT), Eastern Region, Kolkata is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India and has been functioning as the implementing and monitoring authority in the eastern and north-eastern region to provide Apprenticeship Training to the passed out students of vocational, diploma and degree level from the engineering or technical institutes under ‘The Apprentices (Amendment) Act, 2015.
